Yank PVT Van Buren Arnold 6th Canadian Mounted Rifles Boer War

Missouri born PVT Van Buren Arnold who enlisted in the 6th Canadian Mounted Rifles, South African Forces at Calgary on April 24 1902. he proceeded to South Africa, was returned to Canada, and struck off strength in consequence of "Disbandment of the Forces." Below are his Canadian services records and American Legion correspondence and his 1908 wedding photo.

Here for your viewing pleasure is PVT Arnold's BSACo. Lee-Enfield MKI* Model rifle dated 1901 serial number A55655 which was issued to PVT Van Buren Arnold who enlisted in the 6th Canadian Mounted Rifles, South African Forces at Calgary on April 24 1902. he proceeded to South Africa, was returned to Canada, and struck off strength in consequence of "Disbandment of the Forces." He retained the rifle after leaving service. The rifle still has its original issue oil bottle. I was fortunate obtain this rifle from Arnold's grandson.

On further research I found this interesting tidbit in "Canadian Military Handguns 1855-1985" by Clive M. Law pg 30 which states that "At the close of the (Boer) War, when Canadians returned home, they were given permission to retain their Lee-Enfield rifles as personal property." SO this explains how PVT Van Buren Allen retained his service rifle from the Boer War.
