Pbaczuk Posted October 20, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 20, 2020 This amazing grouping is from a class of 1934 USNA graduate named Allyn Cole jr. He was an intel officer and Japanese linguist who was assigned to Japan and further studied in Tokyo before the war. He transfered to Corregidor and then to Pearl Harbor to witness the attack. He remained at PH as an intel communications officer and (according to the family) was a team member of Capt. Jos. Rochefort’s team that decoded the Japanese intent to attack Midway Island. He served on the USS Idaho and USS Wisconsin and Bremerhaven during the post war period. Finally, he served with the NSA and SECDEF where he received the pin and finally retirement. This is a great grouping with images of him receiving the Bronze Star and the Legion of Merit. The early image of him is captured in a sterling silver frame. His graduation from the USNA and further dovuments have FDR’s signature and James Forrestal. He married his spouse in Hawaii in 1941 and there are two photo albums from there. He is buried in Hawaii. KASTAUFFER Posted October 21, 2020 Share #9 Posted October 21, 2020 Looks like he left Corregidor and went to Pearl at just the right time! Most of the Naval Intell personnel on Corregidor left by sub prior to the fall of the Philippines anyway. Kurt
Pbaczuk Posted October 21, 2020 Author Share #10 Posted October 21, 2020 He also arrived at Pearl Harbor on the day of the attack. What a dangerous, crazy and tragic experience. He definitely knew this crisis was existential and therefore, he was ready to dedicate his skill set to stopping the Japanese advance.
