scotty1418 Posted October 20, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 20, 2020 Would appreciate any thoughts as to ID on this patch. Stylized plane is marked USAF and there's a '4' on top. Coat in rear suggests some kind of engineering or technical bend possibly? Thanks!
Randy Posted October 20, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 20, 2020 Never saw it before, looks like a C-47. It also looks German made maybe? I agree it looks like a support type unit, which could be tough to ID. The only support unit with that number in Europe I know of was the 4th Aviation Depot Squadron in the UK, and it had a different badge, but who knows with these sometimes. I don't think they had any aircraft assigned but again nothing from the 50s surprises me. LMK if it is German made and I'll see what I can dig up there. Randy Posted October 21, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 21, 2020 It does look German made. I'll look around some more, but no luck so far. Randy
scotty1418 Posted December 8, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted December 8, 2020 This was identified as 7030th Support Squadron out of Ramstein - circa late 50s/early 60s.
Randy Posted December 9, 2020 Share #6 Posted December 9, 2020 Makes sense, except for the 4 but maybe that was a crew number or something as it would be an unofficial patch. Here's the wing they fell under, the 7030th Combat Support Wing. German made as well. Randy
