Tesla Posted October 12, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 12, 2020 Hello All, Which Vanguard marking should be on WWII era army wings? What WWII ratings did they manufacture?
B-17Guy Posted October 12, 2020 Share #2 Posted October 12, 2020 Years back I was in contact with the president of Vanguard and he said that the only wings they sold during WWII were USN, others were later. John
5thwingmarty Posted October 12, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 12, 2020 I contacted Vanguard once as well. The answer I received (NOT from the company president) was that they did make AAF wings during WWII but they did not put their hallmark on any of them until their post WWII production. In any event, I would not consider any Vanguard-hallmarked wings to be WWII issued. Also, I believe Vanguard is another company for which it is unclear if they actually made any AAF wings from their own dies, if they only had other companies make wings to which the Vanguard hallmarks were applied, or if they only made wings using dies acquired from other companies. At minimum Charles Polk, Silverman Brothers and Vanguard all used the same dies for many of their wings.
