cagedfalcon Posted October 11, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 11, 2020 It's not everyday you find something like this. I receive a txt about buying a collection & ended up buy this engine cowl.In the 4th pic , you can see the separation line for the lower cowl, which I have. This has been sitting in sellers junk area for years until I rescued it today. First 3 pics, cowl is sitting upside-down. TheCrustyBosun Posted October 11, 2020 Share #4 Posted October 11, 2020 Helldiver for sure!! Great haul. I like that the cowl flaps are still present. Two of them are curved to accommodate for the exhausts which helps confirm the type. BZ!

cagedfalcon Posted October 16, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted October 16, 2020 Safely delivered, 1730 mile round trip.Strapped to the engine stand for trial fit.Couldn't take more pics in assembly area due to it being a customer plane & the plane museum was closed due to the dreaded "19".Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk
TheCrustyBosun Posted October 16, 2020 Share #8 Posted October 16, 2020 Awesome! Is this a restoration for static display or return to airworthiness? Are you at liberty to say?
cagedfalcon Posted October 17, 2020 Author Share #9 Posted October 17, 2020 It will become only the second flying example anywhere. The other was restored by the same shop.Sent from my SM-N960U using Tapatalk

Swifter Posted October 27, 2020 Share #13 Posted October 27, 2020 Yeeowwzaaa CagedFalcon! What a fantastic set of serendipity to have come across a basically undamaged 75 year old lower cowling section for a SB2C.....and then have that same item be needed as part of returning a second big bad Curtiss Helldiver back into the blue! Doesn't get more cool than that.....

Swifter Posted October 31, 2020 Share #17 Posted October 31, 2020 Westpac does some beautiful work indeed. Was able to supply them with a upper control column for a late model P-38 some years ago.
