The Rooster Posted October 6, 2020 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2020 I'm not sure why I like them so much, but Ive got an affinity for real WW2 Meyer Wings. I picked this up tonight. Full size, I like the shield on them and the weight. Fairly heavy wing.
The Rooster Posted October 6, 2020 Author Share #2 Posted October 6, 2020 I think Meyers get a bad name because they did all those restrikes. But Ive learned (From studying the forum posts of all you experienced collectors ) that you can easily spot the difference between a real one and a restrike and you can find them somewhat cheaply (Prob because of the restrikes). You can also find restrikes that people try to sell as real and ask way too much for. People get burned. But if you know what to look for, you can sometimes get these at reasonable prices. Sometimes real cheap. Meyer made really nice wings. This one for instance is pleasing to my eye and has a strong shield and is heavy. Solidly built. This is a wing ! Not some flimsy thing. They also made really nice Navy Pilot wings. Same heavy solid construction. Even their Navy wing was a solid product.
jeff41st Posted October 7, 2020 Share #3 Posted October 7, 2020 Yea, I like the Meyer wings too. There is a lot of variation in the hallmark to look out for as well. That is if you like all that minutiae like me. Nice pickup.
