3rd ID m1917 helmet surprise

I bought this helmet for fairly cheap only knowing what the liner looked like. I’m currently overseas so when it arrived home I had my brother unbox it and to my surprise was a 3rd ID insignia. It’s also named but I haven’t been able to get a good picture of the name tag yet.

I am going to go with Sgt. Homer Alfred Simkins, Co B, 5th Field Signal Battalion.  Born 3/23/1889, died 4/16/1981, and served in both WWI and WWII.  Aka, this guy:

And his 1930 Veteran’s Benefits form from Kansas, showing affiliation with the 3rd ID.  Should be enough to get you primed on your research.  Congrats on a fine helmet.
