I've been considering doing some type of engineer impression for reenacting, and have been on the look for any sort of in the field welding photos in particular, and other engineer photos

It would be really interesting to see any photos anyone has of this sort of thing, particularly close ups of the hoods these fellas would have worn, or close ups of them in general. And to add to this, I've got one photo of my own. Taken somewhere on one of the Pacific islands, USAAF Engineer.c7c2317ec59450bd1f46ef463d250363.jpg

Sure looks like someone used it to weld in. The small tears up and down the sleeves look like splatter or spark damage, looks like what I'd imagine that damage turns into in the long term. Really neat to see that from other photos, and this jacket, most of those guys did the majority of their welding wearing nothing but HBTs and the like.

Exactly why I bought it. The son was amazed that I even wanted it dye to condition.

Well I don’t know if this helps but I found these two photos online. The first was taken on Papua New Guinea and they are welding a plate onto a DUKW, but I’m not sure about the second. I found these on the National WWII Museum’s website.

Second pic looks to by standard uniform with vest & gauntlets. Even has holes in sleeves like mine.
