KASTAUFFER Posted September 26, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 26, 2020 I look for WWI Canadian groups to US Citizens and recently acquired this group. PTE Delana Duff was born in Wisconsin and raised in Michigan . He enlisted in Canada in May 1916. He was wounded and later died from his wounds on April 12, 1917 while serving with the 28th Canadian Bn at Vimy Ridge.

GIKyle Posted September 28, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 28, 2020 Very neat, Kurt! If you go onto the CWGC website they have a few more documents detailing his burial and the addition (or not) of his epitaph by the family.

ScottG Posted May 28, 2021 Share #7 Posted May 28, 2021 My oldest Son has researched hundreds of Michigan men who served in the Canadian Forces in WWI. He traveled to Ottawa prior to Covid and worked out of the Canadian War Museum for a couple of days as well as visiting many cemeteries here in Michigan. He is very dedicated to this project and laments how expensive Canadian WWI items are for collectors as he would love to collect. He is a college student so it isn't in his budget but he has got lucky a few times with small items while doing his research. I am going to send him a link to this as he may know about this soldier but regardless, he will love that grouping! We have a similar small grouping at Michigan's Military Heritage Museum to a Michigan man who served in the Canadian Siberian Expeditionary Force. I will try to remember to take a photo of it and share it here for you to see. Thanks for posting this great group! Scott
KASTAUFFER Posted May 28, 2021 Author Share #8 Posted May 28, 2021 Hi Scott I think it is great that he is doing that research! That is awesome! Groups like this don't have to break the bank. I bought it on Ebay unresearched for a very very reasonable price. The WWI Canadian service records are all online in PDF form and are free to download. Thats how I researched this one before I bid. ScottG Posted May 28, 2021 Share #9 Posted May 28, 2021 Thanks Kurt, and yes some items are still reasonable but alas, my Son dreams of a named uniform and that remains out of his price range... And out of my Christmas or Birthday present range😉. Here is our small group to a Canadian who lived in Ohio and Michigan and was part of the Siberian Expeditionary Force. Sadly he was greatly affected by this service and became an alcoholic that ultimately died in an institution here in Michigan. Sorry for the glare, they are all matted and framed in the museum. Andrew Posted July 31, 2021 Share #10 Posted July 31, 2021 It is also possible to access complete unit war diaries and circumstances of death records online at no charge from Library and Archives Canada.
