charleston Posted September 16, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 16, 2020 Hello, I recently picked this up at an estate sale. I have never got into headgear, but I know the Bancroft Flighters are desirable. I guess my main question is how rarer is it to have the original box with one. In case you can't tell from the pictures it is a Patent Pending one so it is actual war period from what I have read on here. Anyways hear are the pictures. Thanks God Bless the USA
1canpara Posted September 16, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 16, 2020 Beautiful! I’ve never seen one with a box! Great find!
Wake1941 Posted September 16, 2020 Share #3 Posted September 16, 2020 Beautiful hat, has the wrong badge though. The badge is US Air Force late 40s/50s period.
charleston Posted September 16, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted September 16, 2020 Wake, I was wondering about that, as all the other badges I have seen on these are the gold ones. Whats funny is the veterans estate I got it from was in the 4th Infantry in WW2. Then become a Colonel I believe stateside after the War in the 83rd Infantry Reserves into the 60s. Would that have been changed post war for that reason...?
dskjl Posted September 16, 2020 Share #5 Posted September 16, 2020 what a beauty, the box really makes it special. Congrats!
phantomfixer Posted September 17, 2020 Share #6 Posted September 17, 2020 That is a killer cap!!! with the box too... if he stayed Army, the badge would be gold...the silver badge is USAF post 1947....I would assume the uniform would have changed in 47 when the USAF became a separate branch...having said that, I have seen blue USAF Ike jackets with the old USAAF patch on the shoulder ...which is kinda cool
