warguy Posted September 14, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2020 I am very happy with this latest acquisition. This tunic was sold as a grouping and included was the Marines two VFW hats (one dated 1938), his trousers which had ben re-tailored to breeches to be worn with the puttees, his set of puttees, a named medal from his Indiana VFW, and everything you see on the tunic. The Marine who owned this tunic is Thomas E. Heck, who served in the 51st Company. He entered in May 1918, and was in France by September, likely saw action at Blanc Mont and the push to the Meuse river, as well as serving on occupation duty. The patch is German made. Interestingly, he was proud enough to wear the ega that he painted them gold on the collar discs! Evidence suggests he was pretty active over the years with VFW functions, gatherings, etc. I was happy to acquire this piece of history.

b_hinch Posted September 15, 2020 Share #6 Posted September 15, 2020 That is gorgeous Kevin, and really "pops" in the sunlight. Great tunic and great history. I actually really like the vet-painted EGAs - very unique and I think they display nicely.
