Papas-Toybox Posted September 14, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 14, 2020 This gun looks original to me, but I'll be taking it to a friend of mine that knows them inside out. Sept 1943 Winchester 03A3. From what I can see all of the markings look correct. The stock is even in really great shape albeit with some minor repairs. Blacksmith Posted September 14, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 14, 2020 It looks like the receiver has been drilled for a scope, then filled - maybe with lead? I’ll defer to the milsurp market experts, but from what I’ve seen, that REALLY hurts value.
Papas-Toybox Posted September 14, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted September 14, 2020 Blacksmith. That is another reason I'm having a gunsmith friend of mine check it over. Believe me I bought it right. It's gonna go in my gun cabinet regardless. It is an awesome looking gun, with matching parts so I am happy. Thanks, Bob
gomorgan Posted September 14, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 14, 2020 It's a Remington, Winchester did not make 1903's. And agree the receiver has been tapped for scope mount and filled in. Should be a good shooter though.
Papas-Toybox Posted September 15, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted September 15, 2020 You're correct my mistake. Had my Winchester 1897 shotgun on my mind. I'll update my post.
sigo Posted September 18, 2020 Share #6 Posted September 18, 2020 Drilled or not, nice looking ‘03. Hope the price was right.
Scottz63 Posted October 20, 2020 Share #7 Posted October 20, 2020 Very nice. Even though the receiver has been drilled and filled, it should be a great shooter. My Smith Corona 1903A3 is on of my best shooting rifles.
