Scottz63 Posted September 11, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 11, 2020 Bought this off of ebay. Needed one to go with my Colt 1917. I know the pouch itself is authentic, but not sure about the Calvary markings on the back. Are they real? Thanks, Scott
Old Marine Posted September 11, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 11, 2020 To me the markings look like they are for the Machine Gun section of D company, 308th Regiment.
Scottz63 Posted September 11, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted September 11, 2020 Thanks. That's what I was thinking as well. So are the markings real WW1 vintage? Scott
Old Marine Posted September 11, 2020 Share #4 Posted September 11, 2020 Yeah, they look original to me. Maybe some of the more knowledgeable guys will chime in.

gomorgan Posted September 12, 2020 Share #6 Posted September 12, 2020 Markings look good to me and the number under it is probably the soldiers company number (roster), looks like it is ID'd faintly with ASN also?
Scottz63 Posted September 12, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted September 12, 2020 Yes, it looks like there is an ASN # very faintly. Thanks for pointing that out, I was not sure what that was either. Scott
Scottz63 Posted September 12, 2020 Author Share #8 Posted September 12, 2020 Thanks for the help everyone! I feel much more knowledgeable about the markings now. Scott
atb Posted September 12, 2020 Share #9 Posted September 12, 2020 Marked like that I think it's for Company D, 308th Machine Gun Battalion. The MG company of an infantry regiment marking would be crossed rifles with the regiment number above and "MG" below. The 308th MG BN was part of the 78th Division. Scottz63 Posted September 14, 2020 Author Share #11 Posted September 14, 2020 One more question. What might the 161 marking be? The number of the pouch issued out maybe?
Scottz63 Posted September 14, 2020 Author Share #12 Posted September 14, 2020 It holds half moon clips nicely.
