Steve Brannan Posted September 6, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 6, 2020 My good friend bought a Parkerized Colt .32 Auto Pistol marked US Property. The serial number is 567059. Is there anyway to find out if this Pistol was ever issued to a General Officer in the Army? Any assistance appreciated.
Lsparks Posted September 6, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 6, 2020 In today’s world, GO pistols have special Serials. Maybe not so in WWI/WWII?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ronald Posted September 6, 2020 Share #3 Posted September 6, 2020 Colt 1903 USP serial numbers were regular serial numbers. Some of the members here (kwill) should be able to tell rather quickly since he co authored a book on GO pistols. Pictures are always a plus!! Steve Brannan Posted September 6, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted September 6, 2020 My friend tried to photograph it but they quality is poor. It is identical to one that recently sold on Gunbroker for over $5000 but had the General's ribbons. That one was serial number 567675, just 600 numbers different from my friend's 567059. Looks and condition are identical.

Steve Brannan Posted September 6, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted September 6, 2020 Thanks for checking. Any idea who else would have been issued these pistols besides Generals?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
kwill Posted September 6, 2020 Share #7 Posted September 6, 2020 Most in that SN range went to GOs but they were popular for any and every role other than combat--couriers, embassy personnel, OSS, MIC, CIC, Navy Intel.... Thousands went to the British (many never issued).
OLDNAVYNUKESPOOK Posted September 6, 2020 Share #8 Posted September 6, 2020 Definitely worth $75 for a Colt Archives letter which will indicate where it was shipped.
Steve Brannan Posted September 7, 2020 Author Share #9 Posted September 7, 2020 I’ll try to get some pictures and post them. It appears fired or carried very little after Arsenal Parkerized.
Ronnie Posted September 7, 2020 Share #10 Posted September 7, 2020 Steve I had one that had been issued to the OSS. I sold it to your buddy Jack Brannon’s pardner many years ago. Ronnie

spagg Posted September 8, 2020 Share #16 Posted September 8, 2020 Very nice, do you have a Holster for it? I would agree with the above statement an get a Colt letter. Worth doing so.
Steve Brannan Posted September 8, 2020 Author Share #17 Posted September 8, 2020 I don’t have a holster but will be looking for a holster and belt. Preferably the brown leather type. I think they changed to black leather about 1960.
Ronald Posted September 8, 2020 Share #18 Posted September 8, 2020 1956 was the change over period but as with anything military you will find overlap. That said, brown or black would be appropriate. Military or civilian? Repro or original?
Steve Brannan Posted September 10, 2020 Author Share #19 Posted September 10, 2020 I’d like a military russet original but know it will be hard to find. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
