It is a WWII-era Field Desk, but I'm not familiar enough to know which one.  There were a few variations.  It looks to be in pretty good shape.  What are they asking for it?

Thanks for the ID. This dis located in Goodland Ks. The dealer has just gotten this and thinks it is a cavalry desk. I told him I would inquire. I am going home Monday and don’t know if he will be open over the holiday to ask. I will inquire when I email him.

Quartermaster

That is a Headquarters Field Desk (Fiber) -- shown in Quartermaster Supply Catalog QM 3-4 dated 1945.

Is the outer surfaces and desk top painted gold?

Didn't know if I should reply as Professor Quincy Adams Wagstaff or Dr. Hugo Z. Hackenbush, or Otis P. Driftwood.  (You gotta be old to recognize those names!)

If you do a Google search for WWII military field desk, you will find all sorts of info and photos.  Your style desk may have been used by cavalry units, but is not unique to cavalry.  Everybody used them.
