L-2B flight jacket with German squadron patch

This came from the estate of an Air Force officer who took flight training in WWII and ended up later in SAC, as a bombardier.

The patch says "Jg-52" and from what  I can surmise so far, is from a 1960's reunion. Jagdgeschwader 52 (Jg 52) was a German World War II fighter-wing that exclusively used the Messerschmitt Bf 109 throughout the war.

 

I found some indication this officer may have been in post-war Germany and wondered if he had been able to visit the reunion. But to further confuse me, in 1992 he received a plaque with a Jg-52 patch on it.

This officer served with the 452nd Bomb Group and perhaps the Jg-52 patch was a symbol of the Luftwaffe adversaries. Here's an excerpt from the book 1St Lt. Raymond Miller Pilot: B-17G Flying Fortress which has lots of info about this officer's service in  WWII:
