Is the paint original and should i buy it?

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I'm new here and this is also my first post, i started collecting about 6 months ago.

I collect US uniforms and helmets from units who were fighting in the Battle of the Bulge.

I found this helmet (see pics) the liner is a westinghouse.

I asked a friend about the paint on it and he's not sure if it's original.

So my question can anyone tell me if the paint is original and advice me if i should buy this helmet or not.

Thank you in advance.

Depends on the price I guess. It's a dented up, rusty FS with a broken bail and no straps (if you ignore the paint). Liner looks damaged too with bubbling and paint loss and missing the strap. Just my opinion.

The guy asks a 1000 euros.

I don't mind that the helmet or the liner aren't perfect.

The only thing i wanne know if it's original, then for me personal the helmet is worth buying.

Personally I do not know about the 90th Division insignia but I am skeptical of it because the shell and liner do not show similar amounts of wear. The shell is pretty beat yet the insignia also does not seem to match the wear on the rest of the helmets. I am not an expert and you should get another opinion but at best these parts are original and got paired together, but I think more likely they are reproductions.

That's $1186, seems awfully high for the condition it is in. It's certainly a WW2 helmet, but I can't comment on the 90th ID markings.

Im not liking the follow me bar on the back. It looks like one of those things that someone purposely scratched to age it. All the paint on the insignias

looks too fresh.... and the loops broken no chinstraps and the liner is messed up and no name or provenance to prove anything.

All for way over a Thousand Dollars US..

1,000 Euro equals

$1,185.73 United Staes Dollars !!!!

Nope, I'd run from it personally.

I would not want it even if I had the money. For that money you could get

a real nice early M1 with a Hawley Liner....

Thats my gut feeling looking at it but I dont know for sure of course but thats my 2 cents.

Without proof of what it is, I wouldnt drop a dime on it let alone 1000 euro's

The thing looks fake to me but Im no expert.

Cheers !

First Paragraph....

Here is my return of the day, all good found in a village in the Belgian Ardennes, Yet this division did not fight in Belgium, but I have photos of non-commissioned officers of the 90 on the village square where they come from Very Happy helmet and under helmet The liner has had a little bit of heat on the side

1st reply....

Hello, Congratulations on such a comeback. And with a bar of non-commissioned officers? What is the lot number. Magnificent, M1 90th TO Helmet, "Tough Ombres" "Texas Oklahoma 295986

I wont go any further, Its just a lot of magnificent I love it etc etc nice insignia ... nice NCO bar... thank you etc..

No mention of provenance proof etc etc. The pics are just pics someone dug up of a soldier holding a helmet.

There is no story to it what so ever. Just found in a village in Belgium. No proof. No name nothing all for

1180 bucks !!!  lol
