Fakkel127 Posted September 3, 2020 Share #1 Posted September 3, 2020 Hey Everyone, I'm new here and this is also my first post, i started collecting about 6 months ago. I collect US uniforms and helmets from units who were fighting in the Battle of the Bulge. I found this helmet (see pics) the liner is a westinghouse. I asked a friend about the paint on it and he's not sure if it's original. So my question can anyone tell me if the paint is original and advice me if i should buy this helmet or not. Thank you in advance.
MattS Posted September 3, 2020 Share #2 Posted September 3, 2020 Depends on the price I guess. It's a dented up, rusty FS with a broken bail and no straps (if you ignore the paint). Liner looks damaged too with bubbling and paint loss and missing the strap. Just my opinion.
Fakkel127 Posted September 3, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted September 3, 2020 The guy asks a 1000 euros. I don't mind that the helmet or the liner aren't perfect. The only thing i wanne know if it's original, then for me personal the helmet is worth buying.

Ray42 Posted September 3, 2020 Share #5 Posted September 3, 2020 Personally I do not know about the 90th Division insignia but I am skeptical of it because the shell and liner do not show similar amounts of wear. The shell is pretty beat yet the insignia also does not seem to match the wear on the rest of the helmets. I am not an expert and you should get another opinion but at best these parts are original and got paired together, but I think more likely they are reproductions. It's certainly a WW2 helmet, but I can't comment on the 90th ID markings.

The Rooster Posted September 3, 2020 Share #8 Posted September 3, 2020 Im not liking the follow me bar on the back. It looks like one of those things that someone purposely scratched to age it. All the paint on the insignias looks too fresh.... and the loops broken no chinstraps and the liner is messed up and no name or provenance to prove anything. All for way over a Thousand Dollars US.. 1,000 Euro equals $1,185.73 United Staes Dollars !!!! Nope, I'd run from it personally. I would not want it even if I had the money. For that money you could get a real nice early M1 with a Hawley Liner.... Thats my gut feeling looking at it but I dont know for sure of course but thats my 2 cents. Without proof of what it is, I wouldnt drop a dime on it let alone 1000 euro's The thing looks fake to me but Im no expert. Cheers !

shadawg Posted September 4, 2020 Share #15 Posted September 4, 2020 Even if it was original, that thing looks like a grease ball in those pics. European prices on m1s are also unreal
