johnny12550 Posted August 28, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2020 Don’t know where to really ask about this. I have seen Spanish American War Navy uniforms, so this isn’t one of them. Could this Naval Uniform be from the Civil War to before the SAW? Or is it a Civilian Yacht uniform worn by crews of wealthy yacht owners of the time. The patch on the left sleeve and stars on the back are hand sewn to the uniform. The pants that came with this are a thicker material with Bone buttons. Anyway, if anyone has seen something like this please let me know. Thanks

sigsaye Posted September 3, 2020 Share #3 Posted September 3, 2020 Not US Navy. Something Civilian. For what it’s worth, the USN had blue collars and cuffs on white jumpers until 1893, when the undress white jumper was introduced. That garment did not have buttoning cuffs. From 1852-1859, the USN did, have white cuffs and collars on both white and blue jumpers, but they were faced (backed) with blue denim. Stars on collars were not a regulation feature on jumper collars until 1866. The style of the sleeve insignia did not come into use with the USN, until 1893. You have some sort of civilian “Sailor Suit”
johnny12550 Posted September 3, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted September 3, 2020 Thanks for the information. I was almost 100% sure it was civilian, but I just wanted some confirmation on that.
