redone Posted August 28, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2020 Does anyone know what 88th ARRS DGT 14 is and is it an Army or Airforce unit ? These two patches were with Fake Vietnam War in country made patches. Is that what they are or are they good pieces made elsewhere in the 60s or 70s ? Thank you
Randy Posted August 28, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 28, 2020 It is the 38th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron Detachment 14. A USAF unit. These do not look like originals but it's hard to make a firm call based on these pics as they are too small to tell for sure. Randy
Old Crow 1986 Posted August 28, 2020 Share #3 Posted August 28, 2020 I'll get the ball rolling... 1) USAF 2) ARRS stands for Aerospace (or Air) Rescue and Recovery Squadron 3) "Pedro" is a long established and historically revered call sign attached to certain helicopter rescue units - From http://www.usafhpa.org/callsigns.html "The HH-60G Rescue Units in Afghanistan such as the 55th RQS use the call sign “Pedro”, it’s “a legacy call sign that reaches back to the early 1960′s and the HH-43 helicopter–the first rescue helicopter used in Vietnam”. (Although not readily known, the “Pedro” call sign was first used by H-5 and H-19's in Korea in the early 1950’s.)" - See also https://www.ragay.nl/kaman-h-43-huskie/pedro-call-sign Can't speak to the patches' authenticity or to the lineage of the 88th ARRS, Det 14. EDIT...Randy beat me to it. He is spot on. Hope I provided some detail
