mvmhm Posted August 28, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 28, 2020 A few weeks ago we were talking with Michael, Retired Coast Guard Petty officer First Class and mentioned we don't have too many CG artifacts - today he helped us rectify that. Michael served a total of 22 years in the military, with the first three as an artilleryman in the Army.He then joined the Coast Guard and served aboard the cutter CHASE and the remainder of his career in rotary wing aircraft. While aboard the CHASE, he took part in Operation URGENT FURY, the invasion of Grenada. This is one if his earlier helmets; he lamented that his Chain of Command "didn't let us pretty them up like the old-timers." It came with it's helmet bag and still has all the avionics and cables intact.

mvmhm Posted August 28, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted August 28, 2020 Working in the Aviation Maintenance rate, he was the crew chief for several helicopters; these instruments had been replaced in one of his birds. The clock is made by the famous Waltham Precision Instruments company. The liquid-filled compass still works!
mvmhm Posted August 28, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted August 28, 2020 Michael also included two pairs of flyer's gloves...one is unworn and the other shows extensive use. One of his flight suits - the insignia will be forthcoming, as well as some of his Army uniforms.
mvmhm Posted August 28, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted August 28, 2020 He carried this diver's knife when flying drug interdiction missions in South America and an unissued Camillus survival knife manufactured in 1983, complete with the often-missing sharpening stone. Looking forward to see what else he has in his attic! Mark sends
