I think this is the first KIA document I’ve had that describes the place of death as the European Area.

The date is March 24, 1945.

Included is a document with an explanation of the Purple Heart.

Was he killed in Germany?

All comments welcome.

He was a 1st Infantry Division KIA so probably killed in Germany not long after the Rhine crossing at Remagen, headed towards the Ruhr Pocket fighting.

Manges is originally from Yuma Arizona.

He was in the 18th Regiment of the 1st ID.

I found out that he died of his wounds so that might explain the generalization as to the location of his passing.

Most likely he was badly wounded earlier than the 24th.

Any additional comments welcome

Thanks Az for the additional information.

I wonder when he joined the 1st.

You're welcome.  I can't find when he joined the 1st.
