Saw this Purple Heart in an antique store for $80 and understood it was a reissue but a simple search saw he was a KIA 17th airborne operation varsity doctor. I passed on it and when I got home did a little more research and found a picture of his Purple Heart with the correct date for Varsity versus the March 23rd one I saw. Reversed month/day might suggest it was done in Europe. If it was an average KIA Heart then maybe it was something that the family did in the last 20 years. However, why do these always seem to be a paratrooper Heart, doctor no less, famous action? Another recent was a D-Day Heart.

McGee is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery.  His grave was adapted by Wesley Haex.  I have found that those overseas who adapt a grave generally try to find out as much as they can about the person.  I do not know if Wesley lives in the Netherlands; however, as dhcoleterracina states, the date is in an European format.

Of course, it could have been done over here for other purposes.
