wartimecollectables.com Posted August 17, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 17, 2020 Came across this 1942-3 contract boxed Distinguished Flying Cross. The box is labeled to Benziger Brothers, Inc. The medal has a sewn broach and though my pics aren't good, it has a thicker USN/USMC style planchet. I can't find anything on this manufacturer. Anyone else? BigJohn#3RD Posted August 17, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 17, 2020 Andrew, That boxed DFC is an interesting find. I checked all my government issue boxes and didn't find any manufacture by that name either. Thanks for posting. John
dhcoleterracina Posted August 17, 2020 Share #3 Posted August 17, 2020 Cool DFC Andy but it doesn't look like a Navy planchet to me.
wartimecollectables.com Posted August 17, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted August 17, 2020 Sorry, should have been clearer. No, it's not a USN/USMC contract DFC. If it were, the box would be so marked and more of a burnished finish. But the thickness is nearer to the USN/USMC strikes than to an Army contract. I just dig strike variations and contract runs so that was of interest. My camera is on the fritz! Using an old one, lousy pics!!
