HELP ID PAINTED WW2 M1

Just picked this helmet up and was curious if anyone knew the identification of the painted insignia. It appears to be a yellow sword diagonally across a light blue shield. Was painted on both sides but mostly gone on the left side. The helmet itself is a front seam, swivel bail with what appears to be a WW2 era Firestone liner painted OD yet with a 1972 dated sweatband. Appears to have been together for a long time but sat in a damp basement for years so unsure. There is  "A-27"  in ink (looks like from a marker) inside the shell and also "Scripture 7" pencilled under the brim. I really can't make out a heat stamp number but there is a clearly stamped "10" just above the split in the rim. Thanks for any info!

Wow, thanks Mike! It doesn't have the snaps on the chinstraps and the liner is not airborne either so I wasn't even thinking airborne. WW2 or post war or can't one tell? Thanks again, Jim

It was probably painted for the 1946 new york city ww2 victory parade, the had to come up with alot of painted helmets and im sure they used whatever was on hand, and also not all airborne unit helmets are actually airborne equiped helmets, sometimes supply problems or some guys didnt need the aiborne straps on their helmets for their jobs, ground crew etc.....mike

That's an awesome find! I didn't even see the insignia at first as it is a little worn down. Nice job spotting it. Very rare helmet, and very desirable. Congrats!

Thanks! I didn't notice that it was painted either until I got it home and really took a good look at it since it is a bit worn off. Certainly a nice surprise! Thanks again Mike for all your help.

504th Shield find. Believe these two who as we see are getting ready to make a Training Jump, are at Bragg sometime in the immediate post war period.

Because I posted this in Liners a ways back. Of this June 1948 photo of an early post war marking for the 504th Airborne Infantry, which was maybe painted on,  it is a sold shield with Flaming Sword, scalloped bottoms with inverted point, with border, but no scroll with motto. Troops are up from Bragg at Dix giving summer drill training to either a New Jersey or New York City ROTC unit.

6 minutes ago, The Rooster said:

I only ever saw a recoiless rifle once back in 1982 mounted on a jeep at Fort Drum.

Yes these were also Tripod mounted, must of been a B in Korea during the war humping it broken down with Ammo crates for it up and down those Yama's in 50-51.
