iron bender Posted August 12, 2020 Share #3 Posted August 12, 2020 M56 pistol belt. It's part of the m56 gear set that includes mag pouches, suspenders, a small pack, compass/first aid pouch, etc. Typical of the belt worn during Vietnam
Doctorofwar Posted August 13, 2020 Share #4 Posted August 13, 2020 A quick way to tell at a distance if it is a M56 belt or earlier is the M56 was adjustable at both ends. Earlier M1936/M1912/M1910 pistol belts were only adjustable on one end.

Rcreech Posted October 4, 2022 Share #7 Posted October 4, 2022 actually it is the M1956, often called the M56 for short, indicating the year of adoption, it was continued used up into the 80s or beyond by national Guard units.. the military started replacing them with the M1967 or M67 which had the flat metal quick connect buckle again 1967 indicating the year of adoption. with two versions, first the Paul Type, with the metal teat hooking from the back, as does the M56, and the Davis Style, which does not have the Teat, instead with the folding lock. Both were replaced in the late 70s, to early 80s with the Davis style, with plastic locking buckles.

Rcreech Posted October 4, 2022 Share #9 Posted October 4, 2022 There is a later version of the M56 that is the Davis Style (no metal teat).. not sure of the year of release, but knowing the M67 had two versions, I am guessing it was released in the early 60s
