thatrandomguy Posted August 10, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 10, 2020 Around a month ago I purchased an M1 helmet with an early heat stamp. It got me wondering, what’s the earliest manufactured M1 helmet the internet has documented? I’m not sure if heat stamps are the sole thing to rely on for determining helmet age, but it’s always a good start. Here’s my helmet, it has the M1917A1 styled buckle, front seam, fixed bales, and a heat stamp of 27B_1.
CWG Posted August 10, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 10, 2020 I have read, and researched extensively into this. The earliest M1 Helmet heatstamp possible is believed to be 25A 1 and 24B 3 as the last possible stamp for a M1917A1. They are incredibly rare to find as some didn’t even make it out as problems with early shells were common. They understandably had not perfected the process yet. The earliest Schlueter is a 01A. So far I have only seen 3 27Bs WWII_GI has one, Yours, and one on eBay sold about a month or two ago. Would love to find a 25 or 27 myself someday if anyone has one let me know! A guy I know has the earliest M1 I have ever seen.

Sent from my iPhone using TapatalkI was mostly just ball parking from memory of helmets I've seen here on the forum. So all in all I'd have to say that what you've shown are the earliest known. Unless some digging proves otherwise I guess.Sent from my SM-J327V using Tapatalk
GSP Posted August 10, 2020 Share #6 Posted August 10, 2020 Here's another thread on the same subject. The earliest heat stamp I know of for Schleuter is 01A. Somewhere around the early 20s would be extremely early for a McCord M1 Helmet.

Do you know if any are currently available & possibly up for sale? Or know anyone who wants to sell one?? -Will
