Looks good to me from those pics...how does the paint look under magnification?...looks like it may have been heavily cleaned or maybe had a layer of paint removed to reveal the medic markings? Looks like some remnants of black paint removed🤔......mike

Looks heavily wet sanded to me. The biggest problem is not that layers of overpaint could have been sanded to reveal the cross but that there are absolutely no signs to me that the rest of the shell was sanded at all. I also can't see one single scratch that carries from the OD into the red or white anywhere. Considering the rust and wear on the rest of the helmet, I find that hard to dismiss. The paint looks like finely sanded enamel to me.

If from a collector, I would definitely want to know why it was sanded. If from a non-collector, surely they would have a reason. Microscope pics might help but that sandingtreatment makes it even harder to determine - that alone is a sign of warning.

Medics are all the rage these days....such a rare configuration to begin with and they are now seemingly self-replicating out of the wood work.  I would personally give this one a very wide berth.

I think I will pass on this one.

Thank you all for the advise.

You likely passed on a good one. It looks as though the medic roundell was uncovered from an overpaint. The scratches which were brought into question are normal from scrubbing to remove the overpaint from the softer air dried medic roundells. The reason the scratches are not seen in the OD is because it is a much harder baked finish. Plus the OD does not show scratches like the shiney red and white do. All in all this looks to be a nice late WWII or KW uncovered medic. I personally am not a fan of uncovered markings but, that's  just me. Whatever the case, this was still a desirable entry level medic.

Be careful when basing your final decision to purchase on the advice you get here. Use it as one tool but not the only tool. Not everyone is right.

Ok....so I went back to look at the helmet again.

Took better pics of paint. No black paint seen, just nonfaded paint under chipped white & red paint.

Noticed a scratch near where the paint is heavily applied. Looks like tan & white? Is it worth trying to remove the repaint?

Looks like a Firestone 52...is that the year?624bed6647e332c071c868ec4c3ceede.jpg90f55ff1dcd02ccaa479f2862088ef01.jpg2ab06697143a3e39079c91e818bbe0ba.jpg

More than likely the mold number as by 1952 this would have had OD7 webbing in it.
