No Quarter Posted August 3, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2020 Took a gamble on this bring-back artifact today. It appears to be a Swiss pocket watch found on a Western Front battlefield. There is German writing etched onto the watch but I can not make out much of what it says. There is a German name and the phrase "K.K. JAGER." I will try to get better pictures of the etchings but these are the pictures I have for now. The info tag was included with the watch. USCapturephotos Posted August 3, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 3, 2020 That’s one of those “if it could talk” pieces. Thanks for sharing. Paul
bigschuss Posted August 4, 2020 Share #3 Posted August 4, 2020 When I was a young teen in the 80's I displayed my WWII collection in our local library for the 40th anniversary of D-Day. There was a story about it in the local paper, and the widow of a a WWII vet from my hometown gave me a call. She wanted to give me some of her husbands WWII bring backs. She ended up giving me some insignia, a duffle bag with clothing, dog tags, invasion currency, etc. She also gave me a small Swiss watch that she said her husband received in trade for some cigarettes from a German POW. Looks very similar to yours.

Proud Kraut Posted August 4, 2020 Share #6 Posted August 4, 2020 Could this be from an (Austrian) K.u.K. Jaeger "Alois Platzgummer"?

I will try to get better pictures today and look at the etchings with a magnifier. Jacob
