Cohen Posted August 3, 2020 Share #1 Posted August 3, 2020 I'm trying to find out if anyone can put me on a trace to the PH of Lorenzo Noto. Noto was with the merchant marine and he earned his Purple Heart on december 16,1944 in Antwerp. He was in the Rex movie theatre when it was hit by a V2 rocket. He was selected among a group of ten men to be the first Merchant Seaman to be awarded the Purple Heart. He ended a dignified career as a Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Maritime Service in 1946. His family no longer holds his PH medal, they think it was given away many years ago... Now I'm trying to find the "needle in the haystack". Of all the Purple Hearts I've seen, I've never seen one to a member of the Merchant Marine (even though I have the documents for a posthumous one...but no medal...)
