Nic Posted July 31, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2020 Although this is something I don't normally collect, I thought it was interesting enough to pick up and share on the forum. The portrait depicts a WWI Enlisted Pilot taken in Coblenz during the occupation of Germany. Unfortunately the seller didn't have any information as to the man, nor any other items pertaining to him. Eric Queen Posted August 5, 2020 Share #2 Posted August 5, 2020 Really nice photo Nic. What is going on with the collar discs?

I'm a total novice when it comes to WWI items, so I posted the image on one of the WWI US Facebook pages to get some more info. I was informed that the collar discs were "backed by green & black felt to represent Air Service". Another member posted this photo to show them in color. Ivydiv Posted August 6, 2020 Share #4 Posted August 6, 2020 I believe the cloth color roundels may be German made from the Occupation period. I have had them before. These were popular for a short time. Dave
cthomas Posted February 17, 2021 Share #5 Posted February 17, 2021 Wonderful portrait! Love it. Documenting enlisted aviators is one of my specialties. I wish this guy had an ID because I might have another pic of him posing with a group of EM aviators, coincidentally in Coblenz, Germany.
