skypilot6670 Posted July 25, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 25, 2020 Hi Wade 16 It’s a shield badge very popular with veterans both north and south. Yours looks to be for Sons of Veterans , I think that is what the SV stands for. Nice badge Thanks for posting. Fraternally Yours Mike
Wade16 Posted July 25, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted July 25, 2020 Thank you for the expert opinion. Do these badges have much value? Can the soldier be traced for information on his service? His name is E.B. Edwards.
skypilot6670 Posted July 25, 2020 Share #4 Posted July 25, 2020 Hey Wade16. It’s been a long time since I collected shield badges , so I’ll let some one else give a value. You can search Civil War Veterans Shield Badge and probably get an idea of the value by checking ones for sale. This one has some cool associations. It’s the regular army witch is fairly rare and if it is a sons of veterans badge (and I’am not certain it is) this guy or this guys dad fought the confederates and then fought the Indians , providing he was in the service long enough. I tried to pull his muster rolls and any other info I could find but didn’t get a lot .Also I posted below a photo of one of two Indian casualties they suffered at Fort Phil Kearney South Dakota.
