Great thread all the helmets shown so far have been amazing! Here's my only WW2 M1 its a front seam fixed bail with the early brass chinstrap. The liner is a late war CPAC manufacture, has a laundry number written inside (V - 0121) and the front of the liner has a paper "decal" of the army service force insignia.

"A nice real one".....

Yea......I added the net to mine........

I wonder how many actual combat worn WW2 M1 netted helmets made it back to the states intact ?

Im guessing its got to be a really small number ?

I think having an original Vet brought back helmet is a rare thing from that conflict.  Ebay is cluttered with apparent Iraqi bought back lids.

Seems to be made of a really thick plastic or fiberglass, not metal.  But, I know for a fact that one isn’t fake or the netting was added after the fact.  It’s just like it was when it came out of the Iraqi bunker.

The helmet you posted Bryan is an Iraqi M90 helmet first produced in green plastic in 1988. The tan ones were produced a bit afterwards but were around long enough to be captured in Desert Storm like yours. It's made out of from what I can best describe as "plywood but plastic"

Here’s Captain Kings M1-c helmet.

King served multiple tours as a MACV advisor.

The helmet is covered with a typical French-Vietnamese airborne netting scarf as was the mid 1960s fashion and a camouflage band.

66 fiscal year on the sweat band.

Also shown is helmet with one of Kings tiger camouflage suits.

The liner and net with the printing on the band which had its life living on the inside preserving the writing.

Damage to top of net that was hand repaired by original owner.

Just found this amazing photo in my Archive of originals - one marine is clearly using some type of screw pine foliage while the other has a near identical hand tied net like mine

just some very cool nets in that shot

Next is a recent acquisition from Mr Klima. Named to a Mozier, nothing on him yet. Net has been on long enough to leave a shadow.
