One more medal check please

Hello, I'd like opinions on this Indian Wars Campaign Medal. It's thick and is slightly larger on the front face than the rear....making the cross section of the medal like the slice of a cone if that makes any sense. I've not seen that before I don't think. Are you trying to buy an IW medal?

 

if so, what era, etc?

 

I would really recommend you do some research - including here on the forum, and get some idea for what you are looking at.

 

Depending on if you are looking for a first or second strike, this may be the most expensive medal you buy.  If you don’t care, and just want an IW medal, then go to ePay and pay $20 for a modern one.

 

I am just confused, sorry, as you keep posting crimp-broach IW medals, with a bunch if quasi-forensic-type questions that one may expect on an early strike example.

 Sorry to spin you up, I should've been more clear. I'm not looking for a numbered first mint strike. I don't know much about these medals but I do understand those are high priced hen's teeth at this point. From the research I could do on the web - there doesn't seem to be too much info available but I've learned a lot here - I do know there were 'preferred' contracts over the 20th century and then probably a whole mess of mass produced copies made more recently. What I'm looking for is a representative medal to sit beside my 1866 Allin Conversion Trapdoor with some accouterments and uniform items. Ideally not a cheap, modern one but rather one of the older contracts marketed towards veterans. 
So about the crimp-broach thing; I've seen where that type of broach was used on military medals in the middle of the 20th century and on. I obviously know it discounts turn of the century pieces but does that mean something more? You refer to it almost derogatorily.

Oh, I’m not spun up in the least, just was trying to figure out your quest.

 

Now understanding that, folks can likely provide better assistance - in terms of recommendations, etc.

 

 And in answer to your question, I don’t have an issue with crimp-broach medals, just pointing out that they are plentiful in the $20 range - actually, a slot-broach example just sold on eb@y for $40+ shipping.
