I checked Harry Ridgeways site “Relicman” he has a very good reference section that covers many areas of civil war collecting (including Letters). Your image appears correct for a wartime letter but I wouldn’t go beyond that. These letters were popular post war for every fraternal group and drum corps from Maine to California. Check out Harry’s website for a better idea of these letters. Mike O’Donnell and Duncan Campbell also put out a good reference on insignia that is available on the net. Hope this helps.
