WWII_GI Posted July 21, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 21, 2020 I got this recently and I believe it may be an older reproduction, I just wanna make sure before I sell it. The US stamp looks too small to me, the rivets on the back look wrong, and It looks old but not old enough. Also there are no Mfg. marks on it. Heres some pictures. Thanks for the help -Steven

BlueBookGuy Posted July 21, 2020 Share #3 Posted July 21, 2020 hello, your holster (actually, a 1881 Pattern) most likely could be a reproduction - at least so in my opinion, but I prefer not to say it's 100% the ultimate word. Very good-looking leather could not be an 'issue', I've got two of this pattern and one is almost brand-new; some pieces could pretty well have survived in impressive condition. Rather, the 'US' oval that looks not elongated enough - and, the stitching at holster's longitudinal edges does have too much thick thread and keeps excessive width. Specimens 100% original do show stitching on an impressively narrow 'strip'. Here my holster from about springtime 1886, you can note both those details:
BlueBookGuy Posted July 21, 2020 Share #4 Posted July 21, 2020 here my other specimen, this very rare being an original Pattern 1881 (variant #3) having been modified about 1896 with a much wider belt loop for carrying onto the newer 100-round, Mills ammo belts for .30 Krag rounds. Condition is super, but could hardly be a clue to verify it as original or not - in this instance, 'too nice' isn't negative thing. But the two mentioned details are avident, and decidedly different from your's. This my opinion, hope it helps. Franco.

BlueBookGuy Posted July 21, 2020 Share #6 Posted July 21, 2020 btw, I do not have handy photos right now but, even the rear rivets on my holsters are different as well.

Thank you very much for your help! Those are some good looking holsters, the second one is immaculate! Based on your pictures and comments it does look like mine is a reproduction but no worries, that’s what I was expecting.
