USN Submarine N1 w/ art

Recommended Posts

Here’s a relatively recent acquisition. Unfortunately no name found but unique nonetheless. USS Muskallunge SS-262. “Wot’s up Tojo?” It’s seen better days. Enjoy! -Joshua

Thank you all for the compliments! This item was stored in a basement among miscellaneous other US items and was apparently left behind when others had taken all of the firearms and German stuff from the property. It’s condition may have been the reason it was left behind for me to get. There were remnants of leaves and twigs in the pockets as well as old school Juicy Fruit wrappers. I think it was used as a yard work jacket by the vet for some time. -Joshua

Very cool piece. I have never seen a painted submariner's jacket before.  Any idea what the NO2 at the top above the submarine hull number is for?

Neither have I! It really caught me by surprise. My best guess is it’s deck jacket No2 or came from a locker/storage space No2. -Joshua

Out of curiosity, what do you think would be best way to keep a jacket in such a bad shape? would  you just keep/display it this way or would you consider cutting the back panel and maybe frame it?

I would not cut it, but try and fold it so only the back panel is showing and frame it. Also might want to see if there is some sort of museum conservation tape that could be used to tape the rip in the design without leaving and residue or degrading it over time.
