Morrosch Posted July 7, 2020 Share #1 Posted July 7, 2020 Today I found this peace of Aluminium near Omaha-Beach in Normandie. It obviously was in the water for a longer time and maybe it is an remain of an plane... I am not a collector of these things, so maybe someone can help me out. 917601 Posted July 7, 2020 Share #2 Posted July 7, 2020 Aluminum, the only sure way is to test it. 2024-T3 . 7075- T6 ? 5056 ? 2017 ? 6061? ( Marine grade, weld able). I believe from memory 2017 was the type most used back then but Skin and frames used different alloys. No rivets?
Morrosch Posted July 7, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted July 7, 2020 No, unfortunately there are no rivets.
P-59A Posted July 14, 2020 Share #4 Posted July 14, 2020 I think you are mistaken about it having no rivets. I see holes in a row that look like they had rivets at one time. Look at pictures of the bottom of the tail horizontal rudder of a P-38. The bottom was a skid that could be replaced. I can't tell if the larger section is rounded or not.
