39inf Posted June 25, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 25, 2020 Looking for opinions on these AAF squadron patches. White base material with black printed insignia. Are these reproductions? Any help would be appreciated.
R. Watkins Posted June 25, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 25, 2020 They might have been promotional give-away items. This type of prmo was very popualr during WWII. What type of material are they printed on?
39inf Posted June 25, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted June 25, 2020 They are printed on a felt type of material. Thanks for replying R. I was told by someone else the were made during WWII for collectors.
mortaydc60 Posted June 25, 2020 Share #4 Posted June 25, 2020 They were made for collectors and are printed on felt material. Produced approx 10 different units and could be found in Roy Paris catalogue among others available at that time.
R. Watkins Posted June 25, 2020 Share #5 Posted June 25, 2020 Based upon your description of the material my best guess would be that these were possibly intended as table coasters for drinks?
mortaydc60 Posted June 26, 2020 Share #6 Posted June 26, 2020 That pretty funny. Probably some are too young to remember how common these were found. These patches are larger in size more like 4" in div while the typical coaster is more like 3". The coasters also were free at bars and restaurants while these were I think 90 cents in 1946.
