Fixbayonets!

This is the top tray view of a WWII USMC foot locker.  The grouping to this Marine is contained inside and is all original to the foot locker.  I bought this group direct from the veteran's family and was surprised to see the pinup still held in place on the inside lid.  The tape is old and dried out but is still doing it's job!

Sure thing Jerry,  here are some photos of the contents.  He served with USMC squadrons during WWII and then again in Korea.

The Rooster

That Leather helmet is a navy Blast helmet worn under the talker helmet.

Just an FYI in case you thought it was a flight helmet.

Awesome footlocker.

Would you happen to know what squadrons he served in, and / or what his function was?

Thanks, & yes, I did know that.  He used it as a flight helmet.

Thanks for additional photos. Looks like nice grouping :) I noticed kind of flight suit M426a and blast helmet which is interesting!

Cheers,

Jerry

Yes, he was an aircraft mechanic with VMR-953 during WWII & VMF-232 during Korea.

So he was an aircraft mechanic in WW2, working on R5C-1 Curtiss "Commando" twin engine transport planes, but not an aircrewman.

As far as I can tell that is correct.  With the flight suit and heavily worn leather helmet I assume he may have seen flight time in some aspect but not positive.
