Outtair Posted June 21, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 21, 2020 A friend asked for help on this coin his USMC Grandfather had. The story was he won it in a poker game while in Haiti. I guess this is pre 1921, as it states Department of the Marine Corps. Size is 2.75 inches diameter, and .25 thick. Anyone seen this one before or know any history, Tim
Bob Hudson Posted June 21, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 21, 2020 I did a search in worthpoint which has several years of completed ebay sales and I could not find the coin, but I did find the sales of a few ashtrays that appear to be cousins of your coin. Here's a couple:
Brig Posted June 23, 2020 Share #3 Posted June 23, 2020 I'd say 1950s or later...appears to be the P1956 emblem, but image is too small to see details. An emblem in 1921 would have used both latitude and longitude...this was the norm into the 30s
Outtair Posted June 23, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted June 23, 2020 Thanks to you both I agree about the absence of longitude lines. I was just puzzled about the" Department of ". The Haiti poker story was good also, probably got it later in life. Regards, Tim
