Brig Posted June 20, 2020 #1 Posted June 20, 2020 Another forum member pointing this out in a photo in my collection...an unknown rectangular badge beside the rifle expert badge. It's surely got to be a competition award, but doesn't match any USMC badge of the era I know of. I'm thinking maybe from a sister service competition? Can anyone wager a good guess? Photo was taken in China, Christmas 1925
teufelhunde.ret Posted June 21, 2020 #2 Posted June 21, 2020 I’d bet it’s the Elliot Trophy badge, if memory serves the trophy (Eastern Division) came about around 1910.
Brig Posted June 21, 2020 Author #3 Posted June 21, 2020 I looked at that, as well as the Walsh Trophy badge, thinking maybe the curvatures were washed out by the light...but this thing just looks too perfectly straight edged so I have my doubts
SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted June 24, 2020 #4 Posted June 24, 2020 Obviously a time travelling Marine who brought back a pizza box lol On a serious note though, we should send the photo to Emerson and see if he has any idea.
aactionjim Posted June 13, 2023 #5 Posted June 13, 2023 So I was watching a PBS program about the Buffalo Soldiers and this showed up. I just wonder if the old Marine in your photo was in the Army before he was a Marine and won this shooting badge. Could be back then they might have allowed him to wear it.
ydhunter26 Posted August 26, 2023 #7 Posted August 26, 2023 Appears to be an early Dryden Trophy Match Medal
Brig Posted August 26, 2023 Author #8 Posted August 26, 2023 Very interesting. Nice to see this pop back up, I still have the photo
aactionjim Posted February 28, 2024 #9 Posted February 28, 2024 Another photo. I exploded the view and it looks like your badge. The Dryden
SgtMaddoxUSMC Posted March 1, 2024 #10 Posted March 1, 2024 Found this photo of a Dryden Trophy badge, appears to be too enlongated to be the same as the one in Tim's original post. The one on the Marine looks almost (but not quite) squared. https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/nra-jersey-dryden-trophy-marksmanship-1724433011
