This is an AD-5 tailhook I recently obtained. This one shows a good amount of wear and tear. Really happy to have this one.

That is very cool and heavy.

Thank you. It really isn’t as heavy as you might think. It weighs 31 lbs.

The AD-5 was a larger version of the AD-4 single seater.  Here is the tailhook of the AD-5 next to an AD-4 tailhook. I am missing the hook point for the AD-4. You can see the hook for the AD-5 is considerably larger.

Anybody got a hook point for the AD-4 Skyraider??

Really? Is it an alloy? I found the catapult hook from an F4U at a crash site and that thing was really heavy. It was only a "J" hook but it was thick solid heavy metal. Nothing in size next to your tail hook.  I would have thought given the size of your tail hook you would be something in the area of 75-100 lbs or more.

Yes, the tube is hollow and some sort of lightweight alloy. The ends are cast steel and have some weight but the hook point is where the weight is.

Here are some hook points (left to right F-8, S-3, F-14) and a catapult bridle hook I have from a F4U.

That is what I found. I didn't know it was called a bridal hook.

The bridle is the cable that hooks to the catapult shuttle and goes to the aircraft. So you could call it the catapult hook or bridle hook, either one is fine by me.

Here is a Corsair with the bridle hooked and ready to launch.
