The Rooster Posted June 15, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 15, 2020 Greetings. I won this steel shell the other day. Its a front seam Schlueter swivel loop with a 214 heat stamp number. Maybe was a fixed loop. Cant see under the straps on the sellers pics for crimp marks opposite the loops. Im just posting it to get opinions of the paint and texture. It looks WW2 to me ? Thank you. The Rooster Posted June 15, 2020 Author Share #2 Posted June 15, 2020 Sellers pics are rough but it looks like cork to me under the paint ?
manayunkman Posted June 16, 2020 Share #3 Posted June 16, 2020 Looks good congrats. It was issued in WWII but could have been used again post war.
Nickman983 Posted June 16, 2020 Share #4 Posted June 16, 2020 Looks fine. I've got a near mint late war Schlueter and the corking on yours looks almost exactly the same.
sgtdorango Posted June 16, 2020 Share #5 Posted June 16, 2020 Good looking Schlueter, some of them had very rough cork texture...mike
The Rooster Posted June 16, 2020 Author Share #6 Posted June 16, 2020 Hey thank you everyone. I have some WW2 lids that are Dark Green. This one is the lighter green. I guess late war paint color ? I thought it was a pretty nice lid. Might have been converted from fixed loop ? Maybe thats how it got the darker green straps? Converted towards the end of the war possibly? Im going to check for the crimps opposite the loops. Thanks again ! Dave
Nickman983 Posted June 16, 2020 Share #7 Posted June 16, 2020 The swivel bails and chinstraps are probably original looking at the Schlueter date chart.

Got a couple RS SL Schlueters with a light green paint. Looks a bit greyish almost, but definitely green. It's hard to think of a good comparative. I guess the only I can think of is like the lambs ear plant leaf color but darker. Hunt
The Rooster Posted June 16, 2020 Author Share #9 Posted June 16, 2020 Thank you Hunt. Hey it looks as if there is some stamping on the side ? Maybe its aMarine Corps Helmet? They had those stamp kits. I'l check it when it comes in. The pics are rough but it looks like something there ? Dave
manayunkman Posted June 16, 2020 Share #10 Posted June 16, 2020 That does look like a Marines name. Awesome.
The Rooster Posted June 18, 2020 Author Share #11 Posted June 18, 2020 There are no stampings inside. But it's a nice lid. Heat stamp of 210A7 Its not dented and beat to heck as some are. And there's a laundry number on the strap. Not that I can find out who it was, it's just cool that its there. I washed the spilled pop or whatever it was off of it and wiped the rust marks out of the inside. .
