Twillie2 Posted June 14, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2020 Dear Fellow Collectors, Researchers and Care Takers of Militaria, I have a USMC Officers Mameluke Sword. It is serialized. Is there a searchable registry to find out to who was the original owner? Thanks much. Twillie2
warguy Posted June 14, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 14, 2020 The serial number likely does not relate to the Marine who carried it. Is it a three digit number in the 300 range? Many Mamelukes were named on the blade, if yours is not, it is unlikely you will be able to trace it to the owner. Kevin
reschenk Posted June 15, 2020 Share #3 Posted June 15, 2020 The serial number is not the number of the sword but of the certificate of the document which approved the manufacturer to sell the sword as meeting all the standards for use by the Marines. I wish I had a list of all the serial numbers, when they were used, and by which companies. It would help date them.
Twillie2 Posted June 15, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted June 15, 2020 Thanks for the quick responses. The info really helps. The serial number is in the 300 range and is not named. Again, thanks much. Twillie2
