Brian Keith Posted June 14, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2020 This heart went though an auction this weekend, I was unsuccessful, but it is a really nice heart. My buddy found that the awardee was a USN medic assigned to an LST during the Normandy invasion, apparently the LST hit a mine on the 11th of June, injuring this sailor. He survived. Thanks for looking. BKW

Powerhouse Posted June 15, 2020 Share #3 Posted June 15, 2020 Hello, Could it be the LST496? This LST was sunk by a german mine on the 11th of june. As far I know, it was the only LST lost this day in front of normandy beaches. In addition to the ship crew, several soldiers from the 2nd armored division were killed and injured during this sinking. Do you have more informations about this? Brian Keith Posted June 15, 2020 Author Share #4 Posted June 15, 2020 Hello Powerhouse, My buddy did some quick internet searches and verbally passed along the information. Since I didn't get the PH, I haven't reason to follow up. Maybe b searching this persons records you can find out more about the LST. My buddy did say the LST was one of the one's built at Evansville, IN. Regards, BKW
