Doctorofwar Posted June 9, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 9, 2020 That’s cool- I hadn’t seen one marked like that. “For training use only in the continental US only”-extra precaution as you definitely wouldn’t want to get in theater to open an ammo box to find it contained dummy rounds! Survival Posted June 10, 2020 Share #3 Posted June 10, 2020 It must of been ammunition that for what ever reason they figured was not reliable for combat use....
917601 Posted June 10, 2020 Share #4 Posted June 10, 2020 A few remarks. First, the can is unusual as it is marked with the repack date. Not required per TM. The only traditional way to date ammo cans is by looking up the lot numbers as there was no date on the can itself. The outer wooden wire crate that held the cans had the date stenciled. Repacked ammo was ammo that was opened but not used for some reason and returned to supply. TMs stated any time original manufactured and sealed containers were opened, they would have to be inspected, re- sealed, and marked repack. Gun ranges, guard duty, live fire exercises, older ammo dump supplies rotated out, etc..." Repacked" as a term was officially dropped in late 44/45 because troops did not trust it. They then started labeling repacked with " Functional".
