Jordan's King Hussein talks to US and Jordanian soldiers during exercise Shadow Hawk 87 in Jordan, 1 September 1987. DOD photo by PFC Prince Hearns.

Strange camouflage, not sure who the Lt. Gen is. The man to the left of him is Ambassador Paul S. Boeker.

That's what I assumed but just wanted to see if anyone had more info or even an example in their collection.

That's a new one to me, thanks

Was it used in any tests?

George

In the first picture, does anyone see the similarity of Brit pattern desert camo?  Almost a washed out version of them. General officers have a good deal of sway when it comes to custom stuff.

Not sure what DPM is. I'm thinking older school, 80's stuff before digital.

Bit of a stupid question I suppose, of course they will test it!

Since it was urban-t I was imagining a large scale test like Urban Warrior LEO2

Now I see the photos are of the tests, dress up the mannequin and get some observes to rate it.

I have seen pictures of a reversible uniform in someone's collection. One side was the urban camouflage in your latest post and the other was woodland.

I think I have also seen the same pattern in a natick photo on digital commonwealth but frustratingly I cannot find it now

thanks for the pictures

George

Disruptive Pattern Material, British camo  they used from the 60s until they replaced it with MTP in 2010

The search took a little while but I finally found the topic I remember, and a few others which also show this camouflage

they show one reversible blouse and two reversible trousers in collections, and the natick photo I was thinking of

Seems like a "why bother" camo pattern.  I mean, if you're going to use colors that are so similar to each other you might as well just make the whole thing in one color and save the money on "camouflage" dye.

That uniform would be almost indistinguishable from an all-khaki uniform from a distance of more than 50 feet anyway.

The one thing I do like about that picture is that it shows how ill suited the 6 color 'chocolate chip' pattern DBDU was for the Middle East environment.  It might work in the Mojave desert in the US but the Arabian peninsula is mostly just sand.

I believe I have seen some Middle Eastern patterns that were very subtle in the color differences.  It all has to do with the local environment and what you are trying to blend in with.

In testing you always Must try all possibilities and designs
What works one decade for an environment may not be suitable for the next zone.
The fact that it’s an on going process warms my heart

I was tasked to generate a camouflage pattern for the movie suicide squad and the action takes place mostly at night.
The director wanted a night fighting pattern that blends to the dark shadows
I took a few of my favorite drawings and Camo up with Bravoflage
This was a result of many camera tests and color combinations
Remember it was made to read a certain way on camera not real life
This took at least a week working with a graphic artist 10 hours a day
Fabric tests
Dye mixing
Scale
Design
Repeat length
Cut
Print
Fit
It’s endless
