Agreed, Robin.  That is an excellent shot.   They look like airborne soldiers.

 

I wonder what the 5 gallon jerry cans are for?

Great Photo! Looks like glider insignia on their overseas caps. Interesting that there are two "bazookas" in the photo. I like the Coleman stove also.

A now departed friend of mine was an 82nd Airborne artilleryman on the pack 75's. Two combat jumps. RIP Jim!

For those who my be wondering what all of the gear is:

M9A1 bazookas
Entrenching tool roll with 3 shovels, 3 pick mattocks, axe and wire cutter
M21 lighting equipment chest with M41 aiming post lights and spare batteries
M6 tool roll, spanner wrench, files, sockets, hammer, equilibrator locking tools, open end wrench, socket handle and 10" extension, recoil cylinder filler tool
breech cover
I think a fuse setter
M1918 towing straps
M1941 one burner stove
Oil containers and leather cover
3 various 75mm rounds
Field glasses case
Hand spike
Rammer, sponge, and staff
Other half of the staff
2 water cans
10 GI's

Thanks robinb for posting this photo.  It took me 40 years to get a copy of it.  The fellow second from the right, name is Virgil Glore, and I think he was in the glider artillery.  Years ago we worked together in the mechanical service dept. at a Federal Prison.  I think I remember that he was involved in the 1944 landing in Southern France, but they did not glide in.  I think he joined the army from Missouri, if this helps the folks who are good at finding soldier information.
