Vpep Posted June 5, 2020 Share #1 Posted June 5, 2020 My friend asked for my help identify this belt so I thought I’d present it here. I’m at a loss to what it is, hopefully someone here on the forum can identify it. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. thanks, Vic
robinb Posted June 6, 2020 Share #2 Posted June 6, 2020 APG could stand for Aberdeen Proving Ground, but I'm only guessing.
Vpep Posted June 6, 2020 Author Share #3 Posted June 6, 2020 Thanks for the reply. That’s a good theory. The only issue is the date. The belt is dated March, and Aberdeen wasn’t established until October and became operational in December of 1917.
Maxrobot Posted June 9, 2020 Share #4 Posted June 9, 2020 Notice that a part of the belt uses a component of a Kerr rifle sling with the Nobuckl paptent date.
Vpep Posted June 9, 2020 Author Share #5 Posted June 9, 2020 Good eye, I hadn’t noticed that. This is a CB pretty good mystery
QED4 Posted June 10, 2020 Share #6 Posted June 10, 2020 It is hard to get an idea of what it looks like and how it works could you show some pictures of it opened up and laid flat, both sides. I can't tell how it buckles or what all these rivets are holding. The narrower straps attached to the wider strap appear to form loops leading me to think it is some sort of a tool belt. It also looks like it was made up from miscellaneous pieces and the markings may have been on something else before this was put together.
Vpep Posted June 10, 2020 Author Share #7 Posted June 10, 2020 Unfortunately, these are the only photos I have at the moment, I’ll ask my friend for more. The buckle system works very similar to how WWI British web belts fastened like this photo.
